If you’re on this page then chances are you’re either considering us for a sit or have already agreed to one. We’re very conscious of the fact there’s a lot of information to take in when dealing with applications or when you’re new to this so we do our best to keep our profile and applications short. So, we’ve created this page to show a bit more of our experience and answer some questions we get regularly so you know a bit more about us.
We’re very open and honest about our house sitting and we have some expectations we share with all our prospective clients in advance. If you’re interested in our services and would like to find out if we’d be the right fit for you then don’t hesitate to check out our 5 star reviews and availability calendar Here and contact us through Kiwi House Sitters or our socials found at the top or bottom of our website. You can even flick us an email at hello@bestishlife.com
With us, you’ll always get a professional level service with a personable touch. Not to mention a free service!
Yes, we’re not comfortable or confident with caring for horses, and we also won't sit for properties with more than 1 dog. Generally speaking, we don’t look after dogs unless they’re very laid back and well behaved. This isn’t because we don’t like dogs, we’re just more cat people and we enjoy the freedom of coming and going as we please.
We’ve looked after a wide range of animals and enjoyed various personalities but we absolutely adore cats. We’ve lost count of the cats we’ve had in our care so far and we even miss having them whilst on the road, although we promise you won’t have to count yours once you return home. We've even fostered rescues back in Yorkshire to ensure troubled or abandoned cats had a comfortable and caring environment in between their forever homes. Your furry friends will be very much loved by us in your absence and we care for every animal as if it were our own.
We've never cancelled on a client. If we agree to a house sit it's as good as a verbal contract to us. The only reason we would ever cancel is if there is a personal or family related emergency.
Can you put a price on peace of mind? You’re getting a free service from some awesome house sitters. Consider how much you’d be paying cleaners, gardeners and security companies in our absence, or even the stress and cost of your animals going into care. We won’t consider any house sitting with bills/rent involved as this is a mutually beneficial arrangement and both parties have costs involved in doing this. We're extremely cautious with all utilities as it's our nature to be anyway.
We're more than happy to discuss this with you as running a turnover service shouldn't interfere with our work schedules too much :)
While we make no promises to being professional gardeners, we certainly aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty in removing weeds and mowing your lawns. We’ve used a multitude of tools before, including ride on lawn mowers. We’ve looked after indoor plants and vegetable patches as well as planting seeds in greenhouses ready for owners to return home to.
We’ve experienced automatic bore and rainwater tank systems alongside waste systems using bio/bacteria tanks, septic tanks and UV filtered run off systems in some delicate environments. We only use Ecostore or similar products to ensure no damage is done to any of your systems or local environment.
We’ve maintained freshwater pools and spas before so we’re happy to do this for you. A super quick run through in person or written instructions on how your chemicals are maintained is all we need.
No worries! We’re used to running off solar from our RV days so if you have solar panels you can be assured we’ll do our best to use high energy appliances during daylight hours.
We follow a plant based diet so in the interest of avoiding food waste it’d be appreciated if you can use up any animal based products which may expire whilst we’re there. Otherwise we’ll try to utilise any vegan food which is going to expire and expect there to be enough room in your fridge, freezer and pantry for us to live comfortably.
Yep, we’re often asked whether we have any issues with pet diets so please don’t worry about that, we’re more than happy to deal with meat based pet food or sorting out pest traps. If you have chickens then we’ll deal with the eggs however you wish. We’re happy liaising with a local food bank, collecting and writing dates on them for a friend to collect and we’ve even managed a small community roadside shop.
The choice is yours. Some clients have no option but to receive paper copies of important information so we’re happy to take photos of everything and share via a secure link. This will be deleted before we leave and backups are never made to our personal cloud. Of course, we can always just open it to make a judgement call on whether it's important or just throw in a pile for your return. We’re easy!
No, this falls into your realm of responsibility. We won’t accept a job where you haven’t spoken to your insurance company in advance.
Unfortunately so. We’ve tried to be flexible before and believe me when I say it’s no fun lugging the entire contents of our life several hundred metres at a time because we were once told to use a driveway which would’ve struggled to fit a Mini. Garages are preferred but we'll make off-street work.
No, your home is expected to be our own personal space while you’re away.
We both work remotely so the vast majority of our time will be spent at home to give your pets plenty of attention and keep the home secure.
